We're absolutely
thrilled. For the second year in a row, we were one of six
finalists nationwide in the
AA Spirit of Hospitality Awards -- one of the most prestigious
competitions in the tourism industry. The competition is based on
guest feedback, so we're really pleased to know our guests think we're
giving them a great experience. We were quite surprised to make
the finals this year, as they've changed the entry procedure so that
guests have to go on-line themselves and nominate us. We thought,
"No one will ever do that!" A big thanks to all our guests who
took the trouble to review us.
Our half-day self-drive audio tour of historic
Thames continues to be popular. Guests really enjoy
learning about our fascinating
town. For example, did you know that the streets of Thames
literally are paved in gold?
Tourism Coromandel and the towns around the Coromandel are featuring a
special "Taste of the Coromandel" event during the months of September
and October. Basically, we've compressed into that time period
mini-versions all the special events that occur during the whole
year. So when you come for the rugby, you'll get a lot more
instead.
By the way, we're only an hour and a half from Auckland and Hamilton,
so if you're reeling from the high prices there, consider Thames.
Furthermore, if you book accommodation at The Heights for that period,
you go into a draw sponsored by Tourism Coromandel for $5000 worth of
free travel. See their website for details.
Our packages continue to be popular. "Carefree
Coromandel" lets guests experience New Zealand's outdoor
lifestyle by combining a night's accommodation with a gourmet BBQ
served in our park-like garden. For hikers there's " Pinnacles
Headstart", which combines a night at The Heights, gourmet breakfast
the next morning to set your up for your hike up to the Pinnacles,
plus accommodation for two at the DOC hut at the
top, and all the fixings for lunch, dinner and breakfast on the trail.
