The Coromandel is
the home of New Zealand’s environmental movement. Like all Kiwis, we
want to keep our country “100% pure”.
We're proud that
for the second year in a row, The Heights has earned Qualmark's
prestigious Enviro Silver Rating, reflecting our commitment to
our environment and our community.
We've
replaced our old "first generation" hot tub with a new, energy
efficient and environmentally friendly "third generation" spa. It
features dual speed pumps that allow minimum energy use when the spa is
heating. As a result, the spa uses a quarter of the electricity
the old one did. In addition, a silver oxide filter and an
ozonator help keep the water clean and sanitary without the use of a
lot of chemicals.
New, we've added a short
Eco-Trail through our garden so you can learn a little about New
Zealand's environment and native plants.
Around the house you’ll
see lots of other measures to make your experience
here more sustainable, including energy-saving light bulbs,
low-pressure taps, dual flush toilets, recycling, composting and
low-flow irrigation.
Things you may not see
include our charting the amount of electricity and water we consume,
the petrol we use, and the amount of refuse we throw out – along with
initiatives to minimize all of those.
We invite you to help us
protect New Zealand’s most precious treasure – its environment.

Plant
a Tree to Minimize The Carbon Footprint of Your
Trip
|
One of the ways you can help us protect both New Zealand's and
the world's
environment is through participation in the Kiwi Green native
tree planting project. The project is restoring New Zealand's
native forests, many of which were cut down during the 19th and
early 20th centuries.
By sponsoring the
planting of one tree, you are offsetting the carbon footprint of 1600
air kilometers (1000 miles) or 750 road kilometers. Trees are $30
each to sponsor and include the giant kauri and the pohutukawa (New
Zealand's spectacular "Christmas tree"). We can handle all the
paperwork for you and add the price to the cost of your
accommodation. Just let us know in when you book or
check-in that you'd like to participate in the tree-planting
project.
